The 1966 Lemans race proved to be a
sweet sweep for Ford and their GT40's.
The Gurney/Grant GT40 helped to
propel the Fords into the spotlight with
it's capture of the pole and setting a
new record in the process. When the
race started Gurney got off to a bad
start, but then gained the lead on the
second lap and lead for most of the
early hours with record speeds. After
battling hard for 17 hours the car
overheated and was retired. Gurney
said later " We lead them all, set
records and can't finish, our luck has
got to change." Although the luck for
Gurney run out, Ford made up for it
with a 1-2-3 victory at Lemans.
